Our back story…
Holland Communications Ltd is owned and operated by Mike and Nicky Holland.
Based in Christchurch and in business since 2001, the range of products and services offered by HCom has expanded over the years. Although starting out as contract resource Mike’s long experience in the Electronics industry, backed by Nicky’s logistical support, and a logical but creative approach to things ultimately led to the R&D of a range of customised products. These products offer solutions to clients that are both effective and financially viable. Read more about some of these on our Projects page.
In the wake of the Covid-19 nation-wide lockdown HCom determined to expand their offerings, allowing for more diversity when the kind of work involving a physical presence such as installation/ site maintenance work is disrupted! So, in August 2020, Mike and Nicky embarked on a new chapter with the purchase and merger of Radata Systems NZ Ltd.
Radata imported and sold a range of high quality wireless/radio data communications products to resellers and end users. HCom is pleased to be able to add this array of data and microwave radio’s, antennas and peripheral equipment to its own product range. We also offer the small stuff…cable and connectors and such…a one-stop shop.
HCom is committed to providing full support to all former Radata customers. This includes the availability of all current products from respected supplier brands, amongst which are; the RIPEX2 radio, RACOM M!DGE 3 Cellular Router, and RACOM RAy3 Microwave Radio, the SIGNALWAVE Viper radio (formerly the CalAmp Viper), the SINCLAIR range of antennas and NZ made HI-TEC AERIALS, but also includes support for legacy equipment wherever possible.
HCom continues to manufacture, supply and support its own Nursecall System, and enjoys the challenges of designing custom products or solutions for our valued client base.
The development of this website was seen as a critical element to bringing both businesses, HCom and Radata, together to provide a seamless service to its clients. Mike and Nicky are excited about developing these business relationships, and the new opportunities that may emerge as a result, following what has been a tumultuous few years for all in Christchurch and world-wide in the midst of Covid-19.
“Life is about accepting the challenges along the way, choosing to keep moving forward, and savoring the journey.”

Administrative Services
Nicky has worked in various administrative, managerial and customer related roles throughout the last 30 years. Beginning her working career at the MED (Municipal Electricity Department, later known as Southpower) and working her way to her final position as Corporate Credit Manager. This role involved the management of a very large debtors ledger. In 1995, Nicky took on ownership of a restaurant, managing all operational aspects. She sold this business when she and Mike started a family in 2000. Over the preceding years Nicky took on roles as Chairperson of the kids school PTA, as an elected member of the school's Board of Trustees, worked in a "front line" role as part of the Christchurch Earthquake Recovery, and provided administrative support to a few local businesses. Although managing the administrative side of HCom from its incorporation Nicky joined Mike, full time, in early 2020 when they began to prepare for the purchase and merger of Radata Systems with Holland Communications.

Technical Services
Mike's introduction to the Electronics industry began in the late 80's, with his first full time job on the assembly line at Tait Electronics. During the dozen or so years that he remained at Taits he worked in Product Support (providing customers with after sales support); Engineering (working in transmitter design), Application Engineering (working on customised solutions); and Type Approval (ensuring product compliance to international standards). Mike then spent two years in the building industry before returning to Taits for a few more years, on contract, to assist with servicing, support and project work. Following this, Mike joined the team at Salcom as their Systems Engineering Manager, by this time firmly embedded in the Electronics industry. In 2001, Mike resigned as a permanant full time employee of Salcom but formed Holland Communications Ltd and continued to contract to Salcom for several years, as he and Nicky built HCom into a viable business that supported their young family. The rest, as they say, is history.
